Teacher Advisor Review: LMNO Peas

Remember a few weeks ago when we started our Summer Book Club and we read LMNO Peas by Keith Baker? Well, we actually have a review from one of our Teacher Advisors, so we thought wed use it to give you a sneak peek of our September Teacher Advisor reviews!

LMNO Peas by Keith Baker

Reviewed by Chrystal, Kindergarten Teacher, Ohio

Looking for a book to help you introduce or review letters of the alphabet? You will be more than “peas-ed” with LMNO Peas by Keith Baker. Love a book that invites your child to curl up in your lap to “pea-ruse” with you time and time again? Here’s the perfect book for you. Teachers and families alike will find this an enjoyable addition to their alphabet collections.

The large uppercase watercolor letters that take center stage on the pages of LMNO Peas provide easy viewing and identification, making it a great alphabet read-aloud for young children. The rhyming text and rhythmic cadence add listening appeal. Each letter is supported by several words beginning with that letter, reinforcing the letter-sound connections, as well as offering an opportunity to introduce and explore new vocabulary. The diverse activities, hobbies, and vocations in which the clever peas engage provide connections to a variety of themes, including community workers, hobbies, family, and friends. The last page of the book is an open invitation to respond to the story and to get to know one another once you’ve gotten to know Keith Baker’s favorite vegetable—those cute, clever, and friendly little peas. It is those adorably charming and—by their own declaration—unique peas that will invite early readers to return to the pages on their own to peer closely and take in every little detail. Whether the alphabet peas are Giggling, Swimming, or striking a Yogi pose, they give everyone a reason to share their cute smiles and enjoy the book time and again. Searching for a little ladybug that joins the peas on every page as they work and play adds that “I Spy” fun that kids love.

If you want a book that brings choruses of “Read it again, PEAS!”, invite the LMNO Peas to your pod and have fun getting to know the alphabet, the sweet little peas, and one another as you read.

Stay tuned next week to see all of our Teacher Advisor reviews for the September book clubs AND to find out about our special new group of reviewers!
