School Is Out!

May is winding down, along with school years across the country. Like all children, I loved the last day of school. I can still remember the incredible feeling of freedom that overtook me when the final bell rang each year, a feeling that in my opinion ranks up there with Christmas morning, snow days, and Fourth of July fireworks in terms of childhood awesomeness factor. Few things make a child so happy as knowing the days of homework and tests are temporarily over, and the days of swimming pools and BBQs have finally started. So, on behalf of kids everywhere, here’s to the last day of school!

Check out some great last-day-of-school books below, and have a wonderful summer!

The Last Day of Kindergarten by Nancy Loewen, illustrated by Sachiko Yoshikawa
Available in SeeSaw May

The Night Before Summer Vacation by Natasha Wing, illustrated by Julie Durrell
Available as part of the Last Day of School Pack in SeeSaw May

When It’s the Last Day of School by Maribeth Boelts, illustrated by Hanako Wakiyama
Available as part of the Last Day of School Pack in SeeSaw May

Thanks for the book suggestions. I know the students are getting very excited, and I think it’s important to mark the meaning of that last day by leading up to it with a review of the year’s successes and goals conquered!
