Happy Birthday, George Washington!

In honor of President Washington’s birthday, here is a somewhat aspirational book for all you presidential hopefuls: So You Want to Be President? by Judith St. George.

Presidents come in all shapes and sizes: tall and gangly like Abe Lincoln, pint-size like James Madison, and over 300 pounds like William Howard Taft. The presidents of the past enjoyed a variety of pastimes, from dancing (Washington) to dueling (Andrew Jackson) to pillow-fighting (Teddy Roosevelt) to skinny-dipping (John Quincy Adams).

While there are many paths to the presidency, some are better-traveled than others. It definitely helps to be named James—there have been six Jameses in the White House so far. It also helps to have been born in a log cabin—America has elected eight presidents who were! Still, leaders have come from many walks of life and professions. Harry Truman owned a men’s clothing shop, Ronald Reagan was an actor in Hollywood, and many presidents have been soldiers—some more impressive than others.

Discover these and other remarkable revelations and silly tidbits about the men who have occupied America’s highest office in this playful and informative picture book.
