Movie Review: Despicable Me 2

Over the weekend, my sister-in-law Mary posted a Facebook status saying that the afternoon’s activity was taking my niece to her first movie in a theater. Of course I had to know how their viewing of Despicable Me 2 went! Would Miss Evy enjoy the experience? How would she feel about Gru and his family? And most importantly, would she be delighted by the minions?

I asked the Scotts of Boston if they would write up a family review for us to post, and they were happy to share their thoughts. Thanks, Tom, Mary, and Evy!

Despicable Me 2 was the first movie theater experience for our 3-year-old daughter. We weren’t sure how she would react to the dark, loud, crowded theater, but Little Miss Evy found the whole experience entertaining and funny. The plot centered on the reformed villain Gru, who was recruited out of retirement by the Anti-Villain League to help capture a thief who recently stole a top-secret government serum. Gru falls in love with his partner Lucy while performing an undercover investigation into the theft. Evy is very empathetic so she paid little attention to the plot other than emotional scenes, but she thoroughly enjoyed herself. The minions (those little yellow guys) provided much of the comedy, and Evy could not stop watching and giggling at their antics. Our entire family enjoyed the film and laughed frequently. The best part for us was seeing our little one have such a great experience on her first trip to the theater.

Our final verdict? Despicable Me 2 = Family Fun Night.
