We’re Thankful for Great Authors

Like everyone else, at this time of year we are more aware than usual of the people, things, and moments that make us grateful. Last year, we took to our Facebook page and asked people questions about their favorite books, authors, and illustrators. This year, we did the same thing.

After we asked readers about their favorite books, we asked them about their favorite authors. Again, there were many authors we expected to see: J. K. Rowling, James Patterson, Mo Willems, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Madeline L’Engle were all on our staff list, too!

Some of the answers were so passionate; we wanted to share them with you, too! Below you’ll find some of our favorite answers (and maybe you’ll find a new favorite author!)

“I Love Authors Who Spark a Love of Reading”

Diane Neuman Pilatsky Eric Carle, Tomie DiPaola, Lois Ehlert…a love of reading starts with authors like these.

Terrie L. Trevey There are too many to post. But my very favorite is Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit started my love of reading!

Briana Craddock Judy Blume is probably the one I am most thankful for since her books really got be into chapter books. Without her, I could not be thankful for Harlan Coben, Faye Kellerman, Jonathan Kellerman, or Sue Grafton.

Leanna Fleming Delaet Dr. Seuss – he paved the way for early reading success!

Gail Brazeau Dr. Seuss, he is where my love for reading began.

Ann Walters If I could only pick one – Jarrett Krosoczka. Every year I am in awe of the way the Lunch Lady series hooks my reluctant readers (esp the boys)! They start to realize that books can be fun and identify themselves as readers. Thank you Jarrett!

Shannon O’Reilly Henderson I would have to say Judy Blume and V. C. Andrews both got me through my school years. V. C. Andrews was really the one who got me to actually pick up a book and not want to stop.

Brenda Hess Barbara Park. Thanks for all the Junie B fun and for helping all those reluctant readers finally get interested in books. We miss you.

“I Have Too Many Favorites to Name!”

Trish Huffman Lewis Can’t choose just one!! There are several who are close to my heart, beginning with Katherine Patterson, Patricia Polacco, Lois Lowry, Sharon Creech, Barbara Park, and Judy Blume to name a few!!

Kate Moureaux Maloney Madeleine L’Engle, S. E. Hinton, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Mem Fox, Judy Schachner, Eric Carle, and JK Rowling who sparked the reading bug for my husband while telling a great tale for me.

Kerry Sexton Willis I have so many! Laura Ingalls Wilder, L M Montgomery, and J. K. Rowling for kids’ books. Jean Auel, Jeffrey Deaver, Janet Evanovich, and Dave & Neta Jackson for adult books. And oh so many others!

Tammy Halter My list is endless…

“My Favorite Author is a Lifelong Favorite!”

Robin Freese Mellen Harper lee changed my life.

Deborah Bowling Vander Clute If I had to pick one, it would have to be my first favorite author, Madeleine L’Engle.

Lee Sanga For my kid years: Dr. Seuss, Laura Ingalls Wilder. For my adult years: Erma Bombeck, Dave Barry, Larry McMurtry, and Robert Parker. For my kids: J.K.Rowling!

Beth Tancredi Keklak Such a hard question! But since Anne of Green Gables remains my favorite book of all time I will go with L.M. Montgomery.
