Like everyone else, at this time of year we are more aware than usual of the people, things, and moments that make us grateful. Last year, we took to our social media channels and asked people questions about their favorite books, authors, and illustrators. This year, we did the same thing.
After collecting answers about favorite books, we asked our friends about their favorite illustrators. We had a feeling this would be a challenging category and some people said there was no way they could choose just one illustrator. Other readers were enthusiastic about the same illustrators we are: Jon Klassen, Eric Carle, Jan Brett, Maurice Sendak, Loren Long, David Shannon, Shel Silverstein, and Chris Van Allsburg.
Here are some of the enthusiastic answers we received:
• Chris Van Dusen – we love Mercy Watson books in my class and the illustrations are the best!
• Oooh, tough one! I do love Michael Martchenko and David Catrow! I discovered a new favorite this year when class participated in the Global Read Aloud author study of Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Tom Lichtenheld brings her words to life in an amazing way!
• We love Robin Preiss Glasser! Her work is adorable!
• Bagram Ibatoulline is one of my favorites!
Author Jerry Pallotta chimed in with the list of illustrators he’s grateful for by saying, “Happy Thanksgiving to all my wonderful illustrators: Ralph Masiello, David Biedrzycki, Leslie Evans, Edgar Stewart, Tom Leonard, Howard MacWilliam, Shennen Bersani, Frank Mazzola,Jr., Rob Bolster, Tatyjana Mai-Weiss, Will Terry, Mark Astrella, Bonnie Gee, and John Dykes.”
