Happy Easter, Happy Reading!

When I was growing up, my Easter baskets always held a variety of goodies: colored eggs and jelly beans and a magical Cadbury Creme Egg and a stuffed animal…and a book. In fact, some of my favorite books (including A Wrinkle in Time) arrived via the Easter Bunny. But when I checked in with my friends at school or on the playground, I never heard anyone else say they’d gotten a book. They listed candy and eggs and animals and new clothes for church, but never a book. Years later, when I became a bookseller, I realized what an incredible gift it had been to receive books at Easter, and I was happy to help the Easter Bunny’s grown-up assistants find just-right books for their little ones’ baskets.

I never took it as a time to be too serious with our choices, though. I’d suggest spring-themed stories, books about rabbits, collections of poetry, and even classic novels. Here are a dozen books I love to give at Easter (and all year long!).

Springtime Stories

Finding Spring

The Carrot Seed

And Then It’s Spring

Rabbit Tales

Duck! Rabbit!

Wolfie the Bunny

Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery

Poetry Collections

Zen Ties

A Stick is an Excellent Thing

Eric Carle’s Animals Animals

Classic Novels

The Princess Bride

The Trumpet of the Swan

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

These books and many others are all available online now.
